Wooden Hill

Summer Term - Week 5 - 21 May 2020

The sun has shone on the Wooden Hill Class this week and they have had great fun outside.  The theme for the week was ‘Wildlife and Gardens’ and the children have thoroughly enjoyed it.

This is what Caiden wrote about Wednesday’s activity:

On Wednesday, we made a paper fish.  We drew around our hand on a piece of coloured paper then cut it out.  Next we got a plastic straw and some sellotape and stuck the straw onto the back of the fish.  Finally, we drew on the fish to design it.

This was just one of the many activities carried out over the week including rock painting, leaf printing, paper spinner making, bark rubbing, seed planting and planting flowers in pots and flower beds.  The Wooden Hill Class are now going to have to water and look after these pots of flowers.  Look out for them when you walk past or visit the school.

Summer Term - Week 4 - 15 May 2020

This week the Wooden Hill Class have had been doing lots activities based around Florence Nightingale, one of Britain’s most famous nurses.  It seemed very appropriate to be thinking about her this week as it was her birthday on the 12th May.  At the start of the week the children learnt a bit more about Florence Nightingale and some interesting new facts.  Did you know that Florence Nightingale had a pet owl?  This led to making some of our own pet owls.  The children learnt about Florence Nightingale and her work and that she was nicknamed ‘The Lady with the Lamp’.  The children then went on to think about the marvellous job that our nurses do and there was lots of role play of caring and nursing.  This led on to making medals in recognition of the heroic work that our wonderful NHS do.

Summer Term - Week 3 - 8 May 2020

This week, Wooden Hill Class have enjoyed taking part in VE themed activities in preparation for the special Bank Holiday! These have included making and decorating bunting and flags, decorating biscuits and it culminated in a VE themed tea party on Thursday afternoon.

Wooden Hill class continue to enjoy the weekly assembly alongside the work set by their teachers. They miss everyone very much and want to wish everyone a happy and healthy bank holiday weekend!

Summer Term - Week 2 - 27 April 2020

What a fantastic week for Wooden Hill Class.  Despite the rain, there has been lots of playing and learning happening both inside and out.  Every day has started with working hard on Google Classroom to complete home learning set by the class teachers.

After this has been completed, the adults and children have had lots of fun on a vast range of activities.  The fun started on Monday afternoon with a treasure hunt set up by the older children for the younger ones to follow.

Then over the week there has been playdough and gloop making, biscuit decorating, mask making, rainbow making, sports and games as well as so much more.  The children have worked incredibly well together and some really wonderful new friendships have continued to blossom.

Thank you very much to the school staff who have made this happen.

Summer Term - Week 1 - 20 April 2020

We have a temporary new class at Wooden Hill School!  It is made up of children from across the school; from Nursery to Year 6.  The children work collaboratively together and are supported by a range of staff.  This week Wooden Hill Class have had great fun playing outside, making rainbows as well as continuing the work set by their teachers and new friendships have been formed.  Wooden Hill Class also had the strange experience of taking part in our very first whole school, virtual assembly!  They all enjoyed the experience – especially watching it back afterward in the classroom, it was definitely a first for all of us!
