Design and Technology
At Wooden Hill School, our Design and Technology curriculum aims to inspire pupils to develop their skills in creativity and critical thinking. Pupils are encouraged to develop these skills through designing, making and evaluating their work for a variety of inspiring purposes, whilst building technical skills that enable them to progressively develop their practical knowledge and skills.
Initially, children will learn about the application of Design and Technology within the wider world. Specific skills and techniques will then be taught through focused tasks. This leads into a practical challenge that enables the children to apply taught skills through the elements of designing, making and evaluating.
The following areas are taught across Key Stage 1 and 2 in a progressive way.
- Cooking and Nutrition
- Mechanisms / Mechanical systems
- Structures
- Textiles
- Electrical systems
Through our Design and Technology lessons, pupils will be provided with a broad range of exciting and memorable experiences that will enable them to establish a love of the subject.
