Wooden Hill Primary and Nursery School

MFL

At Wooden Hill Primary School, our Modern Foreign Languages curriculum is designed to enable our pupils to become knowledgeable, confident and enthusiastic linguists who are inspired to learn about the wider world. Through the Language Angels scheme, we provide engaging, first-hand language learning experiences that nurture creativity, resilience and curiosity, while developing the essential skills needed to communicate in another language.

Our MFL curriculum supports pupils to become independent, successful learners who apply the four key language skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing – with increasing confidence and accuracy. High expectations and carefully sequenced learning ensure that all children are able to achieve their full potential and build strong foundations for future language study beyond Key Stage 2.

Through a broad range of topics, themes and cultural experiences, children develop their understanding of different communities, cultures and perspectives, contributing to their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. We celebrate diversity and help pupils recognise their role in a multicultural society, preparing them for life in Modern Britain.

Our MFL provision promotes positive attitudes to learning, encouraging pupils to take risks, problem-solve and communicate with others. By building confidence, fostering enjoyment and developing secure grammatical understanding, our curriculum empowers children to use and apply their language knowledge in meaningful contexts, both now and in the future.
