Maths
At Wooden Hill Primary School, our mathematics curriculum is designed to ensure all
pupils develop a deep, secure and adaptable understanding of mathematical concepts.
We aim to teach children the key skills of fluency, mathematical reasoning and problem
solving through expert modelling, guided practice and opportunities to show their
knowledge independently set out in the National Curriculum for England.
We intend for our pupils to:
- Become Fluent: Develop rapid and accurate recall of fundamental concepts,
particularly in number facts and times tables, through varied and frequent
practise.
- Reason Mathematically: Follow a line of enquiry, form an opinion and develop an
argument, justification, or proof using precise mathematical language.
- Solve Problems: Apply their mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine
problems with increasing sophistication, including breaking down complex
problems into a series of simpler steps.
- Value Mathematics: Understand the connections between mathematics and the
wider curriculum, recognising its importance in everyday life and future careers.
