Wooden Hill Primary and Nursery School

Geography

Through teaching children about the geography of their local area and the wider world, the Geography curriculum at Wooden Hill School enables children to develop an in-depth knowledge of a diverse range of places and people – developing a greater understanding of themselves and an awareness of the world that they are part of. Children study the geographical features of their own locality in depth and compare this to contrasting regions.

Children learn from a range of resources including books, photographs, atlases and online resources. Through using resources and carrying out fieldwork, they learn important mapping skills which they will use throughout their lives.

In the Early Years Foundation Stage, children develop an understanding of communities, cultures and traditions; as well as observing their immediate locality and finding out about different environments.
